Preventive well-woman exams can be done by your family physician. The frequency depends on your age, your family history, and your life-style. After 3 normal yearly Pap smears the American College of ObGyn no longer recommends annual paps. However, if you have been infected with the HPV virus a Pap smear is recommended every 6 mo to l year.

Women who have more than one sexual partner whether male or female should have STD screening whether they have symptoms or not. Women over the age of 40 should have annual mammograms, over the age of 45 a colonoscopy, and over the age of 50 a bone density scan. Annual screening for ovarian and uterine cancer is recommended if any of your family members has had cancer. If you are not seeing an ObGyn specialist and your primary care physician is not focused on women’s health we can step in and help.
